Dragondown Event & Summer Queen Celebration!
Posted in Idle Champions.

It's the Summer Solstice in Faerûn, which means it is time for Dragondown and the Court of the Summer Queen Celebration!
While the City of Waterdeep celebrates Dragondown by burning dragon effigies to symbolize the city's victories over invading dragons, some smaller celebrations focus on ceremonial bonfires and charms, with mock-spells and chanted prayers performed as the sun sets.

But something has gone wrong in Luskan this year, where locals have drawn the ire of a Bronze Dragon and its kin...
Trixie the Pixie, a long-time antagonist to the Champions, often appearing astride a charmed creature and always up to some mischief, finally chooses the winning side and joins the Champions in today's Dragondown Event! Our second Featured Champion, Brother Uriah, will be receiving a significant update, with a new Champion Update blog coming on Friday, June 5th, before his launch next Wednesday, June 10th.

For details on Dragondown Year 9, and the Court of the Summer Queen Celebration, read on!

Featured Champions

Trixie

Trixie the Pixie has been a forgettable nuisance for the Champions for a long time, often appearing astride some charmed creature and always up to some mischief. Ambitious and daring, Trixie desperately grasps at a life larger than she's been given, and blames the Champions for their constant meddling in her affairs. Driven to desperation by her many failed attempts at seizing power and influence, Trixie sets out to try a new scheme. She's seen firsthand that the Champions are always hiring. If she can't beat them, she'll join them!
Learn more about Trixie in her Champion Spotlight.

Brother Uriah

Brother Uriah Macawber is a native of Ravenloft, born in the dread domain of Darkon under the iron rule of Azalin Rex. After a horrifying childhood encounter at the Carnival with the demonic entity known as The Caller, Uriah would embrace the worship of the goddess Ezra, Lady of the Mists, offering protection from the forces of darkness to all those in need. Upon joining with the other future members of The Black Dice Society at the infamous House of Lament, Uriah would go on to find true love with his teammate, the undead Aasimar, Nahara... and would eventually discover the dark truth of both the nature of his deity and his mysterious connection to his former liege, the lich-king Azalin Rex.
Learn more about Brother Uriah when his Champion Spotlight comes out on June 5th!

Idle Champions: Great Modron March 9 (DRAFT)
Posted in Idle Champions.

Several times each century, the clockwork plane of Mechanus mobilizes a vast wave of modrons and sends them on a tour of the cosmos. Known as "The Great Modron March," this unstoppable tide of lawful constructs journeys across the material plane on the exact same route each time. However, this time something has changed -- the modrons are marching on Waterdeep.

The Great Modron March has returned for Year 9, introducing Laurana Kanan, The Golden General, and Hero of the Lance elf fighter, as well as bringing a major update to Greyhawk's Prince Brightflame himself, Melf

Featured Champions

Laurana

Lauralanthalasa Kanan was a pampered princess of the Qualinesti elves. Then the flames of evil dragons threatened her people and Laurana joined with other heroes to fight the Dragon Queen. In time, she became known as the Golden General: a renowned fighter, dragon rider, and brilliant battlefield commander. Now a living symbol of hope, Laurana fights to save her people and the world.
Laurana is a Support and Tanking Champion whose abilities grow in power as you complete her 20 Achievements, representing her rise from a sheltered elven princess to the legendary Golden General. She increases the damage of Champions in one of three columns behind her, and she excels when assigned with the right soldiers. Once unlocked, you can find this Elf Fighter in Seat 7 (Minsc)

Learn more about Laurana in her Champion Spotlight.

Melf

Born into the royal family of Celene, he assumed the simple name of Melf eschewing a life of comfort as a noble to study the arcane arts and train as a swordsman. He delved in the dungeons of Castle Greyhawk, the Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth and many other harrowing places honing his skills, knowledge and amassing powerful magical items. Melf sees himself as a weapon of weal hurtling toward the heart of the darkest evils in the realm. He is opinionated and has a touch of conceit that he is blissfully ignorant of possessing..
Melf is receiving a major update arriving at the start of the second week of the Great Modron March. His blog launches on May 8th!

Idle Champions: Festival of Fools 9
Posted in Idle Champions.

After a such long and cold winter, the citizens Daggerford are eager to celebrate the Festival of Fools: a day of feasting, drinking, and general foolishness. People don brightly-colored and garish clothing, dancing in the street like court jesters and competing with one another to see who can pull off the most foolish (yet harmless) pranks.

During the festivities a concerned villager approaches the party and asks for help. She says that her husband's prank is to try and taunt a frost giant...
Festival of Fools as returned for Year 9, introducing Tasslehoff Burrfoot, everyone's favorite 'borrower' and Hero of the Lance, as well as bringing a major update to Lucius Elenasto, the Arcane Chromat!

Featured Champions

Tasslehoff

Excitable, friendly, and insatiably curious, Tasslehoff Burrfoot is a kender of no small renown. Tas is the beating heart of the Heroes of the Lance, and his knack for 'borrowing' somehow manages to solve more problems than it causes. While Tas may not see himself as a hero, he is fearless in the face of Krynn's greatest dangers, and he always comes to the aid of his friends.

Learn more about Tasslehoff in his Champion Spotlight.

Lucius

Lucius Virion-Elluin Elenasto was born to high nobility. He thought he knew what he was getting into when he joined the Heroes of Aerois, but then he met his first cow. Dreadful, evil creatures. Lucius is slowly coming out of his nobility shell as he continues to learn the true value of comradery, friendship, and a world without barriers.

Learn more about Lucius and the tweaks we've made to Aerois Synergy across the Heroes of Aerois affiliation in his Champion Spotlight when it releases on April 3rd.

Idle Champions: Fleetswake 9
Posted in Idle Champions.

The party is recruited by one of Waterdeep's merchant guilds to look into a number of mysterious ship disappearances over the past year. Superstitious folk blame Umberlee, but the merchant guild isn't so sure, and as the Fair Seas Festival gets underway your party begins their investigation in the Dock Ward of Waterdeep...

Fleetswake Year 9 finally brings the Heroes of the Lance to Idle Champions, and for us, there was only one choice in who should come first: Raistlin Majere.

Raistlin is available now. We hope you enjoy him. Next week, on March 11, a major update will arrive for Deekin Scalesinger, everyone's favorite troubador who sings about doom. Learn about the changes to Deekin's design when his Champion Update Blog arrives on Friday, March 6.

Learn everything you need to know about Fleetswake below!

Featured Champions

Raistlin

Born frail yet gifted with an uncanny aptitude for magic, Raistlin Majere is the Sorcery to his older twin brother Caramon's Sword. The youngest wizard ever to attempt the Test of High Sorcery, Raistlin was forever changed, marked by white hair, golden skin, and hourglass eyes that see the accelerated passage of time...

Learn more about Raistlin in his Champion Spotlight.

Deekin

A former member of the Dripping Fang clan, Deekin was once a Skald for a White Dragon named Tymofarrar. Once he was released from Tymofarrar's service, he set out to become the most amazing storyteller in all of Faerûn. He yearns to sing and tell stories of heroic deeds, but his songs often devolve into 'tales' of the doom that is coming to him or his companions.

Idle Champions: Grand Revel 9
Posted in Idle Champions.

In the Forgotten Realms, Grand Revel is a day of dancing, music, and the eating of sweet treats of all sorts, from chocolate to red "firemint" candies. But even during such an unparalleled day of joy there are quests to be done and adventures to be had. One such adventure revolves around a missing caravan on Chult -- and the Templar of the Order of the Gauntlet who desperately wants it found...
Grand Revel is back, and with it arrives the latest CNE Original Champion: Kyre, the Sun Soul Monk!

Kyre is available to unlock now, while next week on February 11, a major update arrives for Donaar Blit'zen, the copper dragonborn Decisionist for the Acquisitions Incorporated "C" Team. Learn about the modernization of Donaar's design when his Champion Update Blog arrives on Friday, February 6.

Featured Champions

Kyre

An unnamed child was born to Damaran refugees fleeing the fall of Bloodstone City at the hands of the Warlock Knights of Vaasa, and orphaned when their parents succumbed to a lingering curse. Taken in by wandering elven monks of Sune, the child grew up in the Waterdhavian Monastery of the Sun, surrounded by compassion, discipline, and the pure light of unconditional love...

Donaar

"This copper, draconic gentleman claims to know more than one hundred different dragons. Chromatic, metallic -- just tons and tons of dragons -- I'm hoping we can leverage some of these connections in our dealings. None of the dragons I've contacted have gotten back to me, but they're probably just very busy right now. This is one of the busiest times for dragons... or so I've been told by my new best friend, Donaar Blit'zen."

Wintershield Mastery Challenges!
Posted in Idle Champions.

You've unlocked Anson, recruited the rebalanced Binwin, and pushed your limits across multiple Wintershield variants. Now it's time to put your skills to the test with WINTERSHIELD MASTERY!

Welcome to the second run of this exciting Event augment! You can learn more about how Mastery Challenges work in last month's Introduction blog. Today, however, we're here to talk about the specifics for this month's challenging restrictions as we all push to get Dragonsoul Card Sleeves for Artemis the Wintershield Event Champions!

Wintershield Mastery Challenges

Base Restriction: Fellowship of the Fallbacks
  • You may only use Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Halflings, and members of The Fallbacks affiliation.

  • Restriction A: Slow Going
    • Enemies gain 5% more health in each area, stacking multiplicatively.
    • You may only use Champions with a base attack cooldown of 5 seconds or higher.

  • Restriction B: Shadow VIPs
    • Enemies gain 5% more health in each area, stacking multiplicatively.
    • Two Formation Slots in the formation are taken up by Shadow Imp Escorts.

  • Restriction C: Attack Pattern
    • Enemies gain 5% more health in each area, stacking multiplicatively.
    • If a Champion is adjacent to another Champion with the same base attack type (ie. melee, ranged, magic), all Champions have their damage set to 0.

  • Restriction D: Building Shadow
    • Enemies gain 5% more health in each area, stacking multiplicatively.
    • In non-boss areas after area 10, an invulnerable Shadow enemy has a 100% chance to spawn alongside each enemy. This chance is reduced by 10% for each unique alignment in your formation. Subsequent enemies spawn with 100% more health for each Shadow enemy in the current area, stacking multiplicatively.

Champion Shop Improvements

With today's update, we also began implementing quality-of-life improvements to the Champions section of the Shop. These updates will roll out gradually over the coming months.

We also noticed during Chest Vaults last year that players enjoyed having access to every Champion's chest. We decided to make that a feature moving forward, accessible through the updated Champions section of the Shop.

Idle Champions: Wintershield 9
Posted in Idle Champions.

In preparation for Wintershield, our heroes have bought an old map from a street vendor in Waterdeep. Then it started talking. I guess we'd better see where it leads.
Wintershield 9 is here with Featured Champions Anson Iro, the human fighter from The Fallbacks, and a much-needed update for Binwin Bronzebottom, whom you may recognize from Binwin's Minions!

Learn all about the first event of 2026 as you read on!

Featured Champions

Anson

Anson has known his share of hardship in his life. Orphaned at a young age, he and his younger brother were forced to live on the streets, doing what they had to do to keep from starving. But while that experience taught his brother to fear and mistrust the world, it had the opposite effect on Anson...

Learn more about Anson in his Champion Spotlight.

Binwin

Binwin Bronzebottom was a member of a rather infamous adventuring group/company, until he left to spend more time with his family. A grumpy and headstrong dwarf with a penchant for springing traps rather than disarming them, if he's not the first into battle then he's disappointed. There's nary a door, tankard, or acid pit that hasn't felt the wrath of Binwin Bronzebottom at one time or another...

Introducing: Mastery Challenges
Posted in Idle Champions.

Well met, Champions!

Today, we have a brand-new Event Augment. We're really excited for this Augment to shake up the final week of our Simril Event, allowing players to put their formation strategy skills to the test and push as far as they can go to show their true Mastery!

As you set up your best possible formations in the Challenge Adventure, you can collect Mastery Gems. This new currency is used to purchase a new type of prestige cosmetic that you can collect for Event Champions: Card Sleeves!

To learn more, read on...

Welcome to Mastery Challenges

The Simril Mastery Challenge will go live at Noon PT today. It will be active until the end of the Simril Event (12/24 at Noon PT). It is accessed from the new notification at the top of the game, either in an Adventure or from the campaign map.

This Mastery Challenge uses the Simril Spoilsport Adventure, with Lark's formation. At first, only the Base Restriction ("Center of Attention") is available. However, there are four Optional Restrictions that you can eventually add to your Challenge Adventure. These Optional Restrictions increase the Adventure's difficulty and are necessary to collect Mastery Gems

Base Reward: Event Token Rewards

You'll earn 10 Event Tokens for every area completed in this Mastery Challenge, up to area 2,500. You'll only earn the Event Tokens per completed area once during this Mastery Challenge, so if you complete area 2,000 with the Base Restriction enabled and collect the Event Tokens for completing areas 1-2,000, you won't start earning additional Event Tokens in this Mastery Challenge until you complete area 2,001+ on later runs.

Unlocking Optional Restriction Slots

Your first step in the Mastery Challenge is to run the Simril Spoilsport Adventure with the Base Restriction to unlock your Optional Restriction Slots.
  • For every 500 areas you complete in a Mastery Challenge (with any restriction active), you'll unlock one of a total of 4 Option Restriction Slots. Those Slots allow you to toggle on Optional Restrictions for future Mastery Challenge runs. Note: When a Mastery Challenge is active in the future, Optional Restriction Slots that have already been unlocked in previous Mastery Challenges will remain unlocked.

Mastery Reward: Mastery Gems

After you complete your initial Challenge Adventure and unlock one or more Optional Restriction Slots, you can start adding those Optional Restrictions to your Challenge Adventures to collect Mastery Gems!

You can earn up to 1 Mastery Gem for each area completed, based on the number of Optional Restrictions enabled. It doesn't matter which Optional Restriction is enabled, just that you have completed an area with X or more enabled.
  • For example: If you complete area 1,000 with 1 Optional Restriction enabled, you'll collect 1,000 Mastery Gems when you reset that Adventure. If you complete area 1,500 with 2 Optional Restrictions enabled on a future run, you'll collect a total of 2,000 Mastery Gems (1,500 Mastery Gems for 2+ Optional Restrictions enabled, PLUS an additional 500 Mastery Gems because you've now completed up to area 1,500 with 1+ Optional Restrictions enabled as well).

Spending Your Mastery Gems: Card Sleeves!

With this Mastery Challenge, we are introducing a new prestige cosmetic that you can use to bling out the Equipment cards of Event Champions: Dragonsoul Card Sleeves!

Dragonsoul Card Sleeves are currently available for each Simril Event Champion in the Event Shop Tab, for a total of 2,000 Mastery Gems each. That means by proving your Mastery of Simril, you can purchase Card Sleeves for up to 5 of the following Champions: Dhadius, Halsin, Krull, Lark, Lucius, Nordom, Regis, Shadowheart, Talin, Warden, Warduke, and Yorven.

Once purchased, the Dragonsoul Card Sleeve is automatically equipped, but it can be toggled off or on via the Champion Page near where you equip Skins. Once equipped, Card Sleeves can be seen in the following locations:

When you open Chests and collect equipment for that Champion.

When you view the Champion's equipment on the bench, or on the Champion Page

You can collect up to 2,500 Mastery Gems for each number of Optional Restrictions enabled. Reaching 2,500 is a top-tier goal, and isn't something we expect most players to achieve - after all, this is a Mastery Challenge.

Every milestone you reach is meaningful progress. If you don't quite make it to the next milestone, any Mastery Gems you've earned will remain in your inventory and help jump-start your progress in the next Mastery Challenge. Every run makes you stronger, and every Mastery Gem earned puts you one step closer to your next Card Sleeve when this augment returns!

FAQ

What are Mastery Challenges?
Mastery Challenges are a limited-time system where you can run Challenge Adventures to earn rewards by building efficient and powerful formations. By enabling Optional Restrictions, you can also earn Mastery Gems, which can be spent on a brand new prestige cosmetic type to deck out the equipment cards of various Champions: Card Sleeves!

What can I earn from Mastery Challenges?
You can earn Event Tokens by completing areas in the current Challenge Adventure. The number of Event Tokens you will earn is based on the highest area completed across all of your runs during the current Mastery Challenge. Once you've claimed the Event Tokens for a particular area, you cannot claim the Event Tokens for that area again in a subsequent attempt during this Mastery Challenge.

By enabling Optional Restrictions, you can also earn Mastery Gems, again based on the highest area(s) you have completed in your attempts using one or more Optional Restrictions.

To gain the maximum rewards from a Mastery Challenge, you must reach the max area (currently 2,501) with all of the Optional Restrictions enabled. This is *not* a task that most players will be able to accomplish!

What are Optional Restrictions
Optional Restrictions are additional, challenging restrictions that you can opt into for the Challenge Adventure. Before you can attempt any Optional Restrictions, you must unlock Restriction Slots, which you do by reaching area milestones with the Base Restriction enabled. You can enable multiple Optional Restrictions at once, up to the number of Restriction Slots you have unlocked. You will earn Mastery Gems for completing areas based on the number of Optional Restrictions enabled. You can choose any combination of Optional Restrictions to attempt at once, and you will earn currency based on the number of Optional Restrictions chosen, not the specific Optional Restrictions that are enabled.

What are Mastery Gems?
Mastery Gems are a new type of currency only collectable through a Mastery Challenge. They can be spent on a brand new cosmetic type to deck out the equipment cards of Champions you love: Card Sleeves!

What are Card Sleeves and how do they work?
Card Sleeves are a new card border that you can collect for certain Champions during the Mastery Challenge. This new cosmetic will accent the look of the equipment cards that Champion has! You can equip or remove them from the Champion Page, near where you equip Skins. You can only purchase Card Sleeves for Champions from the current Event.

Do I have to purchase the Card Sleeves during the Mastery Challenge? Can I wait a few weeks?
Card Sleeves are available on the Event tab of the Shop, and you can purchase Card Sleeves for any current Event Champions. They are currently available for purchase only while the Mastery Challenge is active.

Do Mastery Gems go away at the end of the Mastery Challenge?
No! Just like the Optional Challenge Restriction Slots that you can unlock during this Mastery Challenge, the Mastery Gems you earn are yours. You can spend them on Card Sleeves during this Mastery Challenge, or you can hold onto them for another Mastery Challenge to get sleeves for other Champions! If you have any Mastery Gems remaining, they will remain in your inventory.

When is the next Mastery Challenge Scheduled?
At this time, the Mastery Challenge is an Event Augment. As with all Augments, we plan to review player feedback before determining when Mastery Challenges will next appear!

Idle Champions: Simril 9
Posted in Idle Champions.

Simril is ruined! Someone or something has been pillaging all the food stores of Luskan, leaving very little leftover for the feast of Simril, let alone the long, cold winter to follow. Your party has been hired to hunt down this ruiner-of-holidays and recover the stolen sustenance.
It's time for our final event of 2025: celebrating Faerûn's winter solstice with Simril 9!

We are incredibly excited for players to get their first chance to unlock the last new Champion of 2025, Lark Silverstring, the tiefling bard of the Fallbacks party. Lark is a Support, Speed, and Debuff Champion, so we have little doubt he will find his way into many of your formations.

Coming next week on December 10 will be our second Featured Champion for Simril, Nordom the Modron. Nordom has been reworked with an emphasis on providing more utility while reinforcing his link to Modron Cores. You'll be able to learn all about the Nordom Champion Update when the blog goes live on Friday, December 5.

Now, on with the show -- let's talk about Simril Year 9!

Featured Champions

Lark

A consummate showman and performer, Lark loves the spotlight, but his desire for attention might end up getting him killed. Hunted by mysterious enemies with deadly intent, Lark has nevertheless managed to forge a degree of notoriety and a small fan following as a bard, all while evading his pursuers and any questions about who is hunting him and why. Lark left his old band of performers and initially joined up with the Fallbacks in order to surround himself with powerful protectors. He didn’t expect to catch feelings for the group in the process, but he’s adjusting. The show must go on, after all.

Learn more about Lark in his Champion Spotlight.

Nordom

Modrons are the embodiment of law and order, marching in lockstep through the planes. But when Nordom Whistlklik was separated from his fellow modrons, the essence of chaos infected this rogue quadrone. Now with his crossbow-shaped gear spirits in hand, he works to fit his complex new outlook into his logical—if quirky—understanding of the planes.

Idle Champions: Feast of the Moon 9
Posted in Idle Champions.

The party descends into an infamous crypt filled with the tombs of local heroes to pay homage to their deeds during the Feast of the Moon. Unfortunately, the dead are restless, rising from their slumber as undead and gathering deep in the crypt for some unknown nefarious purpose...

Fight your way through the risen heroes of yore as your party descends into the dark depths of
The Crypt of Legends. Seek out whatever is responsible for this undead uprising, and put an end to it for good!
Feast of the Moon has returned, and with it, a new Evil Magic-User Champion in the form of Skylla the Warlock, whom you may remember from the League of Malevolence and the Wild Beyond the Witchlight campaign!

The second Featured Champion for Feast of the Moon 9 is Havilar, the Battlemaster Fighter and twin sister of Farideh. Players will be able to learn more about the Havilar Champion Update when the blog goes live on Thursday, November 6.

Learn more about today's update below...

Featured Champions

Skylla

The evil magic user Skylla borrows her terrible power from none other than the infamous Arch-hag and Mother of Witches, Baba Yaga. An ally of convenience, Skylla lives only for the pursuit of power and acclaim, seeing even her fellow members of the League of Malevolence as tools to be used and discarded when it suits her needs. Skylla confounds her foes with magical trickery, wielding the unpredictable chaos of the Feywild to hypnotize and incapacitate those who stand between her and her goals.
Learn more about Skylla in her Champion Spotlight.

Havilar

Havilar's twin sister Farideh has always been 'the smart one' and 'the responsible one'—but that's all right, Havilar is definitely 'the tough one,' 'the funny one' and the 'pretty one' (despite being identical twins). Plus, Havilar has a hellhound! Even if it means she's a sort-of-but-not-quite Chosen of Asmodeus, too, not that anyone asked Havi about that. But he should know her glaive is as good as her right hand, and she can slice a devil just as well as an orc, a zombie, or any other villain!
Learn more about Havilar when her blog post goes live on Thursday, November 6th.
